The Fine Print

History

Recreation Laboratories around the US emerged in the 1950's as a response to the need for leadership skill development in both work and social life. The emphasis has always been on experiencing ideas and philosophies in action, over teaching by experts in a classroom setting.

Structure

Redwood Leadership Recreation Laboratory ("Rec Lab") was incorporated in 1971 as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501c(3) of the IRS Code.  Rec Lab members elect a voluntary Board to guide the organization with a focus on learning for peer led, non-profit, and educational groups.

Guiding Principles

Rec Lab is guided by the big idea that leadership is best learned by leading.

  • Leadership is always shared.
  • Learnings promote individual and group development.
  • Rec Lab is financially and legally responsible and accountable.
  • And always, Rec Lab remains aligned with its mission of "Building Leaders through Meaningful Connection."
